To bring you the best insight into the Olympic City, YOO have connected with people at the sporting heart of Rio de Janeiro.

Bia & Branca Feres

With the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, we meet with Brazilian Synchronised Swimmers Bia and Branca Feres, who share their passion for sport and a personal insight into getting the best from your visit to the Olympic City.

How did you both get into Synchronised Swimming?

We started in both gymnastics and swimming from an early age.  This then made the natural progression into synchronised swimming, which for us was like being a mermaid.  We both participated in the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and this will be our first Olympic Games.

How are you preparing for the Olympic Games and what are your expectations?

We are very honoured to be representing Brazil at the games.  Our training regime is at least 8 hours per day, Monday to Saturday.  Of course, our aim is to make history and win a gold medal.

The Yoo2 Rio de Janeiro focuses on design, authenticity, character and local soul.  As twins, do you feel you reflect that?

Although identical, we very much have our own personalities, which reflect the local culture of Rio de Janeiro.

Yoo2 Hotels are very much about festivity.  What are the coolest places to hang out with friends in Rio?

We love the Santa Teresa neighbourhood, which is close to the Yoo2 Rio de Janeiro.  Lapa is also a great place, with a bohemian atmosphere.

Where are your favourite places to go for a drink?

Our current training regime means that drinks are out of the question.  However, when we do go out for drinks, the view is equally important.  We love Palaphitas in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (one of the largest lagoons in the city) and all the small bars that you find on the Rio Beaches.

Where are the best places to go in the city for some outdoor activity?

No doubt, the Flamengo.  It has great Bike Paths and beautiful views.  Sugar Loaf Mountain is also a great place and there are walking and climbing tours for those who are more energetic.

And after all that activity, which restaurants to you like to visit to build up your energy?

Without a doubt, The Iraja Restaurant in Botafogo.  It has amazing Brazilian Cuisine in a lovely characterful building.

What is your favourite beach?

Praia Da Reserva, just south of the city is a wonderful place.

Where would you recommend for people who enjoy surfing?

Praia da Macumba has great waves.

What comes to mind when you think of the Botafogo neighbourhood?

Botafogo is an incredibly vibrant neighbourhood, with a lot of diversity.  The combination of commercial, residential, restaurants and cool bars, ensures that it is always full of life.

Where do you like to go to in Botafogo?

The restaurants on Rua Conde de Iraja are fantastic.  Iraja, Oui Oui and Lasai all offer excellent cuisine and are in beautiful old buildings, so full of character.
